Accessibility

Structure

The Corporate Responsibility Report 2008 site has been built to comply with standards based development and the latest accessibility guidelines. This enables the site to be available to the broadest audience possible.

The site has been built to meet AA WCAG 1.0 priorities. The text content is readable and understandable. The site is legible when css, images and/or javascript is turned off or not available. Tables transform gracefully with the rest of the site.

The site has been built to work optimally with all modern browsers. It will also gracefully degrade for less feature right browsers. The site has been built to screen dimensions of 1024 x 768 on the following browsers:

  • Internet Explorer 6,7,8
  • Mozilla Firefox 1,2,3
  • Safari 2.0
  • Opera 8,9

The colour palette utilised in the building of the site has been optimised to provide high levels of contrast to aid accessibility. All pages are built using a document flow methodology, so that content appears inline in the appropriate points. The site does not use technologies that interfere with the easy legibility of the site, such as objects, iframes, frames or applets. Where flash has been used alternate content has been provided.

Metadata

Meta data has been inserted for non visual elements. This includes alt tags for images, captions/long descriptions for informational media and captions/header tags for tables. Informational title tags are included to better describe where the link will take the user.

Navigation

The website navigation elements have been built to be navigable by keyboard interaction via tabbing. Access keys have been implemented headers, login and content. All navigation elements are text based and readable. The site incorporates a site map and search function to aid navigation.

Fonts

The layout of the site has been built in such a way so as to allow the text to grow. The fonts are implemented with proportional sizing.

Plain Language Commission

The site has been written to use clarified natural language. All content is written in such a way as to be as jargon free as possible. Where obscure terms are used, a glossary is provided to aid clarification.
